Chairman Xin Baoan pointed out, it’s necessary to understand the law of energy development, seize the development trend, and accelerate energy transition to address climate change, environmental pollution, resource scarcity and other severe challenges resulting from large-scale development and utilization of fossil energy.

Global Energy Interconnection (GEI) is a clean energy-dominant, electric-centric modern energy system that is extensively interconnected, and well integrated with various energy sources. It is an organic whole composed of the energy interconnections of various countries, representing the trend as well as an important platform for world energy transition. The process of GEI development is marked by a lower carbon energy structure, safer energy supply, more efficient energy consumption, stronger collaboration among all parties, more active technological innovation and deeper international partnership. At present, world energy transition still faces many challenges, and it is an arduous task to achieve green and low-carbon development. We need to work together to make new headways for GEI to create a sustainable future of energy development.

Chairman Xin noted, as an international organization specialized in  energy, GEIDCO has a membership network covering 141 countries on six continents. Its solid foundation for international energy cooperation will ensure broad development prospects and great potential. Committed to promoting human welfare and a community with a shared future for mankind, GEIDCO needs to seize the opportunity for energy revolution, pursue green development in line with the trend of the times, and steer towards clean and low-carbon development. Tasked with facilitating cooperation and energy transition, we need to establish an efficient cooperation platform for all stakeholders, cultivate a world-class think tank with global influence, launch a number of key energy interconnection projects with significant driving effects, establish a value-creating service system, and build up the internal driver for robust development. In this way, we can further enhance GEIDCO’s global influence and voice, forging it into a world first-class organization.

The meeting called on all Council members to strengthen communication, enhance mutual understanding, and build consensus, focusing on areas of common concern, such as energy transition, climate governance and technological innovation. With continued support and involvement from Council members, covering conferences & events, research, and project promotion, brighter prospects for common development and win-win cooperation will be achieved.

The Vice Chairmen of GEIDCO and the representatives of Council members spoke highly of GEIDCO’s work, and expressed their consistent support and commitment to facilitating GEI development under the leadership of the Second Council, enhancing energy cooperation among different countries and regions via extensive platform of GEIDCO, and further promoting clean energy transition and power interconnection. With stepped-up efforts in climate mitigation and governance, research on frontier subjects, regional integration, standard formulation and capacity building, the Council hoped to better foster innovative outcomes, meet the growing demand for energy and electricity, and contribute to green, low-carbon, and sustainable development of the economy and society.

GEIDCO’s Secretary General, CTO, Deputy Secretary General of and heads of internal departments also attended the meeting.
