Launched in March 2016 with its headquarters in Beijing, China, Global Energy Interconnection Development and Cooperation Organization (GEIDCO) is a non-profit international organization dedicated to promoting the sustainable development of energy worldwide.The purpose of GEIDCO is to promote the establishment of a Global Energy Interconnection (GEI) system, to meet global power demand with clean and green alternatives, to implement the United Nations “Sustainable Energy for All” and climate change initiatives, and to serve the sustainable development of humanity.

António Guterres,Secretary General of the United Nations ,expressed in the congratulatory video that the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and Paris Agreement on climate change depend on a transformative approach to energy. The Global Energy Interconnection Initiative provides a key to solutions that can efficiently use rich and renewable resources, to deliver more than energy services to all even at long distances.

Relying on GEIDCO's strengths in five aspects of project resources, research results, information data, network of members and international outreach, WEI can integrate project promotion, exchange and cooperation, resource sharing, conference services and other functions and cover various links related to GEI from planning through to investment and construction. Therefore, it will help promote demand matchmaking and resource sharing and give new impetus for platform-based economy development in the energy and electricity sector.
