Green Finance and Investment Thematic Forum of 2023 GEI Conference Opens in Beijing

On September 27, the Thematic Forum on Green Finance and Investment of the 2023 Global Energy Interconnection Conference was held in Beijing. It was co-organized by the Global Energy Interconnection Development and Cooperation Organization (GEIDCO), the Ernst & Young (China) Advisory Limited, and the Center for BRICS and Global Governance (CBGG). The Forum aimed to pool global financial resources, boost multilateral cooperation, and promote the energy transition and green development across the world. Receiving great attention and strong support from all sectors of society, it welcomed 16 leaders and experts from financial institutions, multilateral development banks, energy enterprises, and international organizations to share insights and practices.

Attendees included GEIDCO Secretary General Wu Xuan, EY China North Managing Partner Hoffman Cheong, and CBGG Director and World Finance Forum Secretary General Feng Xingke, who delivered speeches.

Wu Xuan said that catalyzing the green and low-carbon energy transition and promoting sustainable development have become a global consensus and development direction, in which green finance will play a pivotal role. GEIDCO has been encouraging the investment and financing of GEI projects and proactively facilitating the integrated development of green finance and GEI, seeing a bumper harvest in investment research, development models, and platform building. He affirmed that GEIDCO is willing to team up with all parties to deepen cooperation, create new models and approaches for investment and financing of GEI projects, and shape a bright future featuring green, low-carbon, and sustainable development.

Wang Naixiang, Chairman of the China Beijing Green Exchange, presided over the keynote speech session. Keynote speeches on the significance of green finance to support low-carbon energy transition and investment trends and practical cases were delivered by Leslie Maasdorp, Vice-President and CFO of the New Development Bank, Mo Wangui, Deputy Director General of Research Institute of the People's Bank of China, Erik Berglof, Chief Economist of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, He Yunpeng, Executive Vice President of the State Grid International Development Co., Ltd., Batchi Baldeh, Director for Power Systems Development of the African Development Bank, and Lu Zhengwei, Chief Economist of Industrial Bank.

Participants in the discussion on opportunities and challenges in green finance-powered energy transition and supply and demand of green finance included Alex Lu, Associate Partner of EY Greater China Energy & Resources, Fu Chenghong, General Manager of SPIC Industrial Fund Management, Wu Jie, Director of Financial Research Institute of State Grid Yingda International Holdings Corporation, Le Xiuqing, Head of Group Invest and Financing of Envision Energy, Arthur Zou, China CEO and Shanghai Branch Manager of the First Abu Dhabi Bank, and Leng Bing, Member of the International Sustainability Standards Board.

The Forum was held online and offline, attracting more than 500 guests from international organizations, government departments, enterprises, institutions, think tanks, and universities.
