On March 4th local time, Unit 1 of the Iraq Al-Ratawi 1GW Photovoltaic Project, the largest under-construction photovoltaic project in Iraq undertaken by the consortium of Energy China International Group, Tianjin Electric Power Construction Co., Ltd. and Southwest Electric Power Design Institute Co., Ltd., has achieved full-capacity grid connection and power generation.
With an installed capacity of 1,000 megawatts, the Al-Ratawi Photovoltaic Project plans to lay 2 million solar panels across a 9-square-kilometer desert area.
Once operational, the project is expected to provide stable electricity supply to hundreds of thousands of households and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by millions of tons annually, which is of vital significance for Iraq to implement its energy diversification strategy.
Upon completion, it will effectively alleviate the current power shortage, reduce reliance on traditional fossil energy, cope with the surge in electricity demand caused by high temperatures, and provide key support for the sustainable development of the region.
