On March 24, Mr. Xin Baoan, Chairman of the Global Energy Interconnection Development and Cooperation Organization (GEIDCO) and President of the China Electricity Council (CEC), held talks at GEIDCO headquarters with Professor Jeffrey Sachs, Chair of the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN). The two sides held in-depth discussions on addressing climate change and advancing the global green and low-carbon transition, and exchanged views on jointly promoting power interconnection, participating in international standards development, and advancing capacity building.

Mr. Xin Baoan welcomed Professor Sachs and his delegation, and expressed appreciation for his long-standing support for GEIDCO. He noted that the two sides have established a regular cooperation mechanism over the years, and have carried out a series of practical cooperation initiatives in areas such as conferences and events, joint research, and technical exchanges, achieving positive results in promoting global sustainable development. He expressed the hope that both sides will further strengthen coordination and leverage their complementary strengths, and make solid progress in areas including jointly organizing conferences and events, conducting interconnection planning, implementing capacity building programs, and developing international standards.
Professor Sachs highly commended GEIDCO’s role and achievements in advancing the global energy transition. He noted that the global landscape is undergoing complex changes, and that geopolitical tensions and conflicts have had a significant impact on global energy supply chains and energy security, further highlighting the urgency of accelerating the energy transition. He expressed the hope that GEIDCO will continue to leverage its strengths as a think tank to promote the application of research outcomes on cross-border interconnection in regions such as Southeast Asia and Africa, and contribute to the global energy transition.
Prior to the meeting, Professor Sachs and his delegation visited the Global Energy Interconnection Exhibition Hall. Dr. Cheng Zhiqiang, Executive Secretary for Cooperation of GEIDCO, and Director General of the Cooperation Bureau attended the above activities.
