GEIDCO Holds Third Session of the Second Council

On March 30, the Global Energy Interconnection Development and Cooperation Organization (GEIDCO) convened the Third Session of its Second Council (the “Council”). The meeting was attended and addressed by Chairman Xin Baoan and presided over by Executive Vice Chairman Liu Zehong.

Council members and representatives who attended and delivered remarks included Vice Chairmen Oleg Budargin and Elham Mahmoud Ibrahim; Abel Didier Tella, Director General of the Association of Power Utilities of Africa (APUA); Yang Kun, Executive President of China Electricity Council (CEC); Wang Zhiwei, Executive Vice President of State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC); Si Weiguo, Vice President of China HuaNeng Group Co., Ltd.; Chen Guanfu, Deputy General Manager, Power Construction Corporation of China (PowerChina); Zhu Dejian, Vice President of Shandong University; and David Sun, Vice President of Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. Also in attendance were GEIDCO representatives, including Secretary General Wu Xuan; Executive Secretary for Cooperation Cheng Zhiqiang; Deputy Secretaries General Li Baosen and Zhou Yuanbing; and heads of relevant departments.

The Council reviewed and approved the work report of the Second Council, along with reports on membership development and services, 2025 financial performance, and personnel matters. The meeting noted that since the Second Session of the Second Council, GEIDCO has remained committed to its strategic objective of becoming a leading international organization with global influence, strong execution capacity, and a prominent voice—supported by its core strengths as a think tank, platform, and service provider.

Guided by the principles of platform building, cooperation promotion, and value creation, GEIDCO has significantly enhanced global awareness of the Global Energy Interconnection (GEI) vision. It has achieved new breakthroughs in project development and standardization, delivered tangible results in international cooperation, improved member services, strengthened its think tank capabilities, and further advanced its institutional development. Moving forward, GEIDCO will continue to better serve its Council members and partners while promoting higher-quality, more efficient, and more sustainable development of Global Energy Interconnection.

Xin Baoan noted that the meeting coincided with the 10th anniversary of GEIDCO’s founding. Over the past decade, GEIDCO has remained true to its mission, upheld a green and low-carbon vision, built an open platform for cooperation, and pursued innovation-driven development with a spirit of dedication and pragmatism. Together with its Council members and partners, GEIDCO has made significant contributions to advancing the global energy transition and sustainable development.

Facing new circumstances and challenges, GEIDCO will continue to leverage its expertise, take proactive steps to promote the global energy transition, and deepen practical cooperation with Council members and partners. Through these efforts, GEIDCO aims to make even greater contributions to advancing Global Energy Interconnection and promoting sustainable development worldwide.

Participants spoke highly of GEIDCO's achievements in promoting global energy transition, advancing energy governance, and strengthening international cooperation. They expressed continued support for GEIDCO's work and willingness to actively participate in the GEI development. All parties agreed to enhance cooperation in areas such as clean energy development, grid interconnection, standards development, and project implementation, and jointly promote green, low-carbon, and sustainable energy development.
