On April 1, the Global Energy Interconnection Development and Cooperation Organization (GEIDCO) held an exchange meeting with the Long Duration Energy Storage Council at its headquarters. Zhou Yuanbing, Deputy Secretary-General of GEIDCO, and Julia Souder, Chief Executive Officer of the Long Duration Energy Storage Council, attended and addressed the meeting on behalf of each side.

Zhou Yuanbing noted that long-duration energy storage, as a key technology supporting a high share of renewable energy, is playing an increasingly important role in enhancing power system flexibility, ensuring energy security, and facilitating the large-scale integration of clean energy. Energy storage is one of GEIDCO’s key research areas. GEIDCO stands ready to strengthen collaboration with the Long Duration Energy Storage Council and its members in areas such as joint research, standards development, project and demonstration cooperation, as well as capacity building and experience sharing, so as to jointly advance technological progress and industrial development in the energy storage sector.
Julia Souder said that, leveraging its extensive membership network covering 145 countries, GEIDCO has made remarkable achievements in promoting the energy transition. She expressed her expectation to further strengthen cooperation with GEIDCO by bringing together industrial strengths from different countries to jointly develop clean energy systems that are both flexible and cost-effective, thereby providing strong support for addressing global climate change and advancing the energy transition.
During the meeting, GEIDCO shared its research outcomes in the field of energy storage, as well as the latest developments of energy storage in China. Seventeen representatives from companies, including ExxonMobil, exchanged views on long-duration energy storage technologies and energy transition. Prior to the meeting, participants visited the Global Energy Interconnection exhibition hall.
The Long Duration Energy Storage Council is a global organization headquartered in Brussels, Belgium. It was established at the 26th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP26), and its members include leading energy companies, technology providers, investors, and end users.
