GEIDCO Chairman Xin Baoan Visits France and Holds Talks with Relevant Parties

On April 13, local time, Xin Baoan, Chairman of Global Energy Interconnection Development and Cooperation Organization (GEIDCO) and President of China Electricity Council (CEC), met separately in Paris, France, with Rana Adib, Executive Director of Renewable Energy Policy Network for the 21st Century (REN21), and Jean-François Gagné, Head of the Secretariat of Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM). The two sides held in-depth exchanges and reached broad consensus on strengthening international multilateral energy cooperation and advancing the global green and low-carbon energy transition.

Xin Baoan noted that, under current circumstances, accelerating the clean energy transition is not only a practical response to climate change, but also an essential choice for ensuring high-quality economic development and energy security in all countries. He said that China attaches great importance to renewable energy development. By the end of 2025, China’s total installed renewable energy capacity had exceeded 2,300 GW, accounting for more than 60% of the country’s total installed power capacity. Among this, installed wind and solar power capacity exceeded 1,800 GW. China continues to lead the world in both the speed and scale of development, and has become an important driving force for the global energy transition.

He added that since its establishment ten years ago, GEIDCO has been committed to promoting the building of a Global Energy Interconnection  which is dominated by clean energy and centered on electricity, characterized by extensive grid interconnection. GEIDCO has become a high-level think tank and international cooperation platform, actively promoted the formulation of GEI standards, and provided professional energy and power training to tens of thousands of participants from more than 100 countries.

Xin Baoan stated that GEIDCO stands ready to further strengthen practical cooperation with REN21 and the CEM Secretariat. The two sides will continue to deepen cooperation on key areas of common interest, including implementation of the Regional and Global Energy Interconnection (RGEI) Initiative, joint research, capacity-building programs, and co-hosting high-level events.

Rana Adib highly praised China’s leading role in renewable energy development and congratulated GEIDCO on its remarkable achievements over the past decade. She said that REN21 and GEIDCO share closely aligned visions in building an electricity-centered renewable energy system and strengthening regional power grid interconnection. REN21 is willing to enhance cooperation with GEIDCO and jointly expand their positive influence in global energy governance.

Jean-François Gagné also spoke highly of GEIDCO’s achievements in promoting regional power grid interconnection and knowledge sharing in Latin America, the Asia-Pacific, and other regions through its global network. He said the CEM Secretariat attaches great importance to deepening cooperation with GEIDCO under the framework of the RGEI Initiative, and hopes both sides will strengthen institutional coordination, build broad consensus, and jointly promote the global benefits of clean energy.

The Head from GEIDCO’s Operation Bureau accompanied the visit.
